A VULNERABLE man has been locked up with some of Scotland's most
violent offenders for five years because the authorities have not
found a place for him to go.
The Scotsman has learned that the man is among 41 patients who no
longer need to be treated at the high security hospital in
Carstairs.
Eighteen have been waiting for suitable alternative accommodation
for
more than 12 months.
For fear of breaching patient confidentiality, doctors and
managers at Carstairs can give only sketchy details of the
vulnerable
patient. They say he came to Carstairs through the criminal justice
system, that his home health board is in the north of Scotland and
that he has a learning disability.
