LABOUR'S prospects for next May's elections to the Scottish
parliament look better than they have at any time this year.
If the election were held tomorrow, the party could be only four
seats from securing an overall majority. In coalition with the
Liberal Democrats, Donald Dewar would enjoy a comfortable overall
majority of 11.
Meanwhile, there could be a significant swing to Labour in the
North East Scotland European by-election tomorrow, albeit not
sufficient enough to recapture the seat from the Scottish National
Party.
Yet, there is little evidence that Labour's recent attacks on the
Nationalists or independence have had much of an impact. Rather,
what Labour's recent campaigning ...
