Joan Hickson, actress
Born: 5 August, 1906, in Northamptonshire Died: 17 October, 1998,
in hospital in Colchester, aged 92
IN A remarkably varied career, spanning more than 70 years, Joan
Hickson appeared in over 100 films and countless stage plays. But
she will always be associated with a role that came relatively late
in her career. In 1984, when she was 78, she was offered the part of
Agatha Christie's dotty sleuth Miss Marple by the BBC. It fitted her
like a glove and she played it with great style for eight years.
Joan Hickson was born in Kingsthorpe, Northamptonshire was
educated at Oldfield College in Dorset and the Royal Academy of
