COFFEE shops are sweeping the country as the cafe culture
popularised by hit American sitcoms such as Friends and Frasier
percolates across the Atlantic.
A new study shows that the UK's coffee shop market has increased
almost nine-fold in the last five years as double-decafs, lattes,
mochas and cappuccinos become all the rage.
Many customers say they now see the coffee shop as a friendlier
and cosier environment than many pubs.
And researchers believe the new breed of coffee aficionados also
hanker after the intimate coffee shop heart-to-hearts popularised in
comedy series from the United States, where the number of coffee
shops has expanded dramatically in recent years.
