A SPLIT was emerging in the Liberal Democrats last night after
several MSPs admitted to "reservations" about agreeing to a
coalition
with Labour.
Jim Wallace, the Scottish Lib Dem leader, will have to work hard
to keep all his 17-strong team of MSPs on board as he holds face-to-
face talks with Donald Dewar.
The pair met for the first time last night at an undisclosed
location in Edinburgh. The two party leaders had prepared the
initial ground work for coalition talks by telephone.
The Lib Dem group at Holyrood appears to have developed an
internal straight split between backbenchers who favour governmental
power at any cost and those who consider their manifesto pledge to
scrap tuition fees ...
