Article: Scottish Screen wins funding battle

SCOTTISH Screen, the national film agency, has won its battle with the Scottish Arts Council for control of GBP 3 million of lottery funding available for filmmakers.

The film production committee of the SAC, which decides on the allocation of funding, will be taken over by Scottish Screen. The move will bring Scottish cinema into line with England, which is setting up its own single funding body, the British Film Council.

Sources at Scottish Screen said they would now be forced to decide whether cash would be spent on developing new scripts, or on paying for existing projects to be produced as quickly as possible. Further details are expected to emerge when Scottish Screen debates spending ...
