THE drive for ratings, cost-cutting and centralised decision-
making have contributed to a rapid decline in current affairs and
drama on television, according to an independent report published
today.
Coverage of political, foreign and economic current affairs is
virtually confined to the BBC, the Campaign for Quality Television
said.
Anonymous producers and commissioning editors interviewed for A
Shrinking Iceberg, Travelling South, paint a picture of a
demoralised, underfunded and unambitious creative community at all
the television channels.
The Campaign For Quality Television is a pressure group largely
made up of current and former television producers and programme-
