SHALLOW preconceptions made it something of a surprise that Debbie Harry agreed to have a chat, at a time of the morning many musicians consider to be the middle of the night, but then Blondie's venerable singer has always delighted in confounding expectations.

"I'm very good in the mornings actually, always have been," she says. "I'm beginning to think that I am in the wrong business."

Not that rock excess has ever been on the Harry agenda, but if there is any natural wear and tear after embarking on a second British tour inside a year, she hides it well.
