SCOTLAND'S most senior police officers have ordered an
independent inquiry into the fingerprint evidence used to prosecute
a detective.
Shirley McKie, who left the Strathclyde force after a jury
cleared her of perjury, welcomed the decision yesterday by the
Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland to order an
investigation into her case.
The inquiry will be carried out by HM Chief Inspector of
Constabulary, William Taylor, after a series of experts questioned
the evidence of the Scottish Criminal Records Office, which claimed
that Ms McKie's print had been found at a murder scene.
Concern about the case was growing yesterday, after The Scotsman
