LOCH Lomond's status as one of the European Tour's most
prestigious venues was further enhanced yesterday when David Duval,
the world's No2 golfer, revealed that he intends to take part in the
tournament sponsored by Standard Life from 12-15 July.
Duval has never previously competed at Loch Lomond and preferred
in recent years to prepare for the Open championship in Ireland with
his friend and world No1 Tiger Woods.
News of Duval's decision is a huge boost for the organisers, who
received another when Miguel Angel Jimenez, joint runner-up in the
US Open two weeks ago, announced he has withdrawn from Smurfit
European Open, but will play at Loch Lomond.
