One in 14 members of the British Army are women, with 7,807
female soldiers out of 109,831.
Approximately 30 per cent of army jobs are reserved for men,
mainly in the Household Cavalry, the Royal Armoured Corps and the
infantry.
There are 12,560 male officers in the army and 1,249 female, with
89,461 men and 6,561 women among lower ranks.
While the RAF and the Royal Navy have recently opened up their
front line roles to women, the army has lagged behind.
While 70 per cent of army posts are open to women, the figure is
73 per cent in the navy and 96 per cent in the RAF.
