SIR Richard Branson yesterday accepted that his Virgin Trains service was sub-standard, with the surprise admission that the trains his company used were "f******".

He also described the troubled West Coast Glasgow to London route as "Britain's most dilapidated railway line."

Sir Richard made his comments after years of repeated criticism that the company has suffered from high fares, late trains and regular service cancellations since taking over the franchise in 1997.
