A UNIQUE strategy aimed at tackling youth crime and improving
relationships between young people and the police was unveiled
yesterday.
Lothian and Borders Police launched a youth strategy to try and
stem the tide of the growing numbers of offences committed by people
aged between 16 and 24. But it also conceded that people in the same
age group were also more likely to be victims of crime.
The force said its attempt to tackle the problem was the first of
its kind in Scotland and would aim to change the perception of
police officers among young people, but also marked a shift in the
way the police approached youth-related issues.
