If you've never given a fondue party then I suggest you do. It's
a great way of breaking the ice and making people do drinking
forfeits if they drop their bread. Some people don't like cheese, so
I guess you could do a meat fondue, with boiling oil in the pot. But
I find you can't get the oil hot enough and the meat comes out grey
and stewed rather than toasted with caramelised edges.
My first fondues were done as a student, in my slow cooker. If
you can ignore the aesthetics of having a dirty great orangey-brown
1970s slow cooker on the table, complete with its plastic beige
housing, then you're OK. But if you can't, then invest in one of the
super trendy, designery fondue pots that are ...
