CHINA yesterday maintained a wall of silence on reports that it
had reopened dialogue with the Dalai Lama, refusing to comment on
reports that the Tibetan leader's brother had secured an agreement
that the Tibetan government-in-exile was welcome to send a
delegation to Beijing.
A spokesman for the foreign ministry reiterated Beijing's
conditions for talks with the Dalai Lama, but departments dealing
with Tibetan affairs were tight-lipped about reports that the Dalai
Lama had reopened his long-dormant dialogue with the Chinese
government.
"I would like to reaffirm here that there are channels for
contact between China and the Dalai Lama," a foreign ministry
spokeswoman said before refusing ...
