Article: Virginia State Police Establish Violent Crimes Investigative Unit

RICHMOND, June 23 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Col. W.F. Corvello, superintendent of the Virginia State Police, today announced the establishment of a State Police Violent Crimes Investigative Unit to address the rise in violent crimes over the past few years.

From 1989 through 1991, State Police said, homicides in Virginia increased from 480 to 584 annually, rape increased from 1,637 to 1,879 and aggravated assault from 10,451 to 12,345.
