LEADERS of the Catholic Church came under fire last night after
they urged the electorate to consider voting against pro-abortion
candidates in the general election.
The Roman Catholic bishops of England and Wales appealed to the
electorate to help bridge a "moral chasm" which they claim has
opened up in British politics. Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor,
Archbishop of Westminster, said considering a vote against abortion
was for the "common good of the nation".
The Catholic Church in Scotland is poised to make a similar call
in its general election policy document, which is yet to be
published.
