LABOUR'S lead in the opinion polls has stretched to 15 per cent
over the Conservatives as the parties prepare for the general
election, according to the latest survey.
The result is certain to encourage the Prime Minister if he is
thinking of an early election, with speculation mounting that he may
take advantage and call a vote in April rather than May.
After watching Labour's poll lead crumble during the fuel crisis,
he may be tempted to go to the country while conditions seem
favourable for his party.
According to the ICM poll for the Guardian, Labour is backed by
47 per cent of voters - up three per cent on January, while the
Conservatives have seen their support fall two points to 32 ...
