THE singer Ronnie Hilton, who had a string of popular hits in the
Fifties and early Sixties, died yesterday in a nursing home in East
Sussex. He was 75. He had been ill for some time and had suffered
several strokes.
Hilton, who was born in Hull in 1926, was rarely out of the
charts during the Fifties and will probably be best remembered for
his signature tune, No Other Love and the children's classic, A
Windmill in Old Amsterdam, which sold more than a million copies.
He appeared in three Royal Variety Performances and was also the
presenter of the popular Radio Two series, Sounds of the Fifties.
Paying tribute yesterday, the entertainer Danny La Rue said his
death marked the passing of ...
