Article: Bells of St Mary's ring for big fight

SIX years ago, St Mary's Episcopal Primary in Dunblane was a school in crisis.

Many of the 48 pupils were forced to use outside toilets. There was no staffroom for marking. The decaying, 150-year-old building was in desperate need of repair. In the words of one despairing parent, the school was "antiquated, cramped and decayed".

Today, things look very different. St Mary's has doubled in size, with 24 eager children starting the new term this month. There are now four full-time teachers and three part-timers. The school is ranked among the top ten in Scotland. There are now new modern facilities, including a computer suite. French is on the curriculum for the first time.
