THE Scottish executive came under renewed pressure on hospital
waiting lists last night after it was claimed the figures are being
"fiddled" in spite of recent assurances by ministers.
Jack McConnell last week attempted to take the initiative in the
growing row over the lists by announcing an independent inquiry by
the Auditor General into the management of waiting lists.
However, the Scottish National Party claimed yesterday that an
analysis of the figures showed that up to 40 per cent of patients
waiting for treatment are on deferred, or "hidden" waiting lists.
It was also alleged in a Sunday newspaper report that hospital
managers in Scotland are removing patients on their waiting lists
