Article: U.S. Legal Immigration Down 10.4 Percent in FY 1995, Reports INS

WASHINGTON, March 28 /U.S. Newswire/ -- INS Commissioner Doris Meissner announced today that legal immigration to the United States fell 10.4 percent in Fiscal Year (FY) 1995 to 720,461, the second consecutive year of decline and the largest two-year decrease in legal immigration since the early 1930s (see Note A).

The 1995 decline, coupled with FY 1994's drop of 9.3 percent to 804,416, brings overall legal immigration levels 20.3 percent lower than the 904,292 admitted in FY 1993.
