Article: American Rivers Announces Continent's Most Endangered Rivers of 1996

WASHINGTON, April 17 /U.S. Newswire/ -- American Rivers, North America's leading river conservation organization, today released its eleventh annual report on the continent's most endangered and threatened rivers of 1996.

The report highlights rivers which face the continent's worst environmental abuse, and provides a snapshot of the state of our rivers today. The group singled out Congress as the biggest threat to America's rivers, and also cited significant threats from mines, dams, pollution, flood control projects and the 1996 Summer Olympics.
