Article: Thousands Petition Florida Department of Transportation for Black Bear Protection

TALAHASSEE, Fla., Feb. 23 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Habitat for Bears Campaign today presented almost 7,500 signatures to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Secretary Ben Watt from citizens across the state who support FDOT's recent construction of a highway underpass for black bears and are calling for avoiding new road construction to prevent further reductions in black bear habitat.

At a hearing of the FDOT Commission today, Christine Small of the Habitat for Bears Campaign stressed that improved transportation planning and the construction of additional wildlife underpasses enjoys significant public support.
