WASHINGTON, June 22 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Calling today's Senate
vote on the nomination of Dr. Henry Foster to be Surgeon General
"reprehensible and sad," Democratic National Committee (DNC)
National Chairman Don Fowler blasted GOP presidential candidates
Phil Gramm and Bob Dole for putting presidential politics before
the interests of America.
"This vote was not about Henry Foster," Fowler said. "This vote
was the first volley in the GOP presidential primary. It is
clearly a battle between Gramm and Dole to see who can be more
anti-choice in positioning themselves for the 1996 GOP presidential
primary. It's a shame that Dr. Foster and the health of the
American people have to be sacrificed ...
