WASHINGTON, July 5 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The American Federation
of Teachers (AFT) today released a report detailing high expectations
for academic success for average-achieving students abroad.
Comparisons reveal a void in the U.S. system, says the AFT.
"The exams in this report show clearly that it's not only the
top students in other countries who do well," said American
Federation of Teachers President Al bert Shanker. "By offering
a common academic curriculum to all students and giving them
real incentives to achieve, these countries enable large numbers
of their average-achieving students to get a solid academic
