WASHINGTON, March 31 /U.S. Newswire/ -- President Clinton today
announced his intent to nominate Dr. Jan Chaiken as the Director of
the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BSJ) for the Department of Justice.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics is the principal criminal justice
statistical agency in the nation. It collects and analyzes
statistical data on crime, drug use, crime victims and other criminal
justice issues. The agency provides financial and technical support
to state statistical agencies and administers special programs to aid
state and local governments to improve their criminal justice records
and information systems.
