WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Trial Lawyers for Public
Justice (TLPJ) has reached the largest property damage class action
settlement in U.S. history.
Three companies -- Shell Oil Co., E.I. DuPont de Nemours,
and Hoechst Celanese -- have agreed to pay a minimum of
$750 million to replace leaking polybutylene plumbing nationwide
and compensate property owners for damages caused by the leaks.
"This is a landmark achievement in consumer protection," said
TLPJ Foundation President Mary A. Parker of Nashville's Parker &
Allen. "It will benefit millions of Americans who have houses,
mobile homes, apartments or other properties with inherently
defective polybutylene plumbing systems."
