NEW YORK, Oct. 27 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Six Planned Parenthood
affiliates are among the several sites participating in clinical
trials of the drug mifepristone (formerly known as RU-486) for use
as a medical alternative to surgical abortion.
The Population Council, which holds the U.S. patent for the
drug, announced the commencement of the clinical trials at a press
conference earlier today.

and based on its successful use in Europe and China -- Planned
Parenthood is proud to be among the first to provide this important
option for American women on a trial basis," said Pamela J.
