Article: Alcohol-Related Fatal Crashes Down for First Quarter in Virginia; Interstate Fatal Crashes Up

RICHMOND, April 5 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Based on preliminary figures for the first quarter of 1993, 40 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes in Virginia, a 25 percent decrease from the 53 fatalities during the same period last year.

Although these statistics are encouraging, overall fatalities have increased. Preliminary figures indicate that 179 people have been killed in traffic crashes this year compared to 173 last year during this same period, a three percent increase.
