Article: NAPHS Challenges Reports of Administration's Mental Health Reform Proposals

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Reports that President Clinton has dramatically reduced his plans for reforming mental health coverage, if accurate, indicate a serious retreat from efforts to include comprehensive mental health benefits as part of the administration's overall healthcare reform plan, according to the National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems (NAPHS).

"While President Clinton remains the single greatest hope for the mentally ill, if the reports are accurate, the administration will have abandoned its once promising position on the importance of providing comprehensive coverage for mental health care," said Bob Trachtenberg, executive director of NAPHS.
