WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following statement
by Harry H. Schwarz, South African ambassador to the United States,
was made Sept. 14 to the American Jewish Committee in Washington,
D.C., on the similarities and differences of the Middle East and
South Africa and released today:
At this time, the signing ceremony on the lawn of the White House
is the major subject of discussion in Washington. I never believed
that I would see the prime minister of Israel, together with the
chairman of the PLO on the White House lawn, but then perhaps they
never themselves believed, that they would ever be there shaking
hands.
