WASHINGTON, April 15 /U.S. Newswire/ -- In a proclamation issued
by the District of Columbia Mayor, Anthony A. Williams, to the
National Medical Association (NMA), April 18-24, 1999 officially
marks the observance of National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) in
Washington, D.C.
The NMA petitioned Mayor Williams to make the proclamation in an
effort to highlight the importance of immunization. Although, the
incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases is at an all-time low, in
the African-American communities many children are still not
receiving immunizations in a timely fashion.
