Article: Gore Releases New Information Confirming Importance of Afterschool Programs for Working Families

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- In a visit to a Washington, D.C. middle school Vice President Al Gore released new information showing that Americans believe afterschool programs benefit working families by keeping kids safe while offering them positive learning opportunities.

The survey, sponsored by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and JC Penney, showed that adults see afterschool programs as very important for keeping kids safe and supervised, offering them tutoring and homework help, and teaching them positive values like respect for others and conflict resolution. Ninety-one percent of those surveyed cited help to working families as the top benefit of afterschool programs. ...
