Article: New Rotavirus Vaccine Linked to Bowel Obstruction in Children

WASHINGTON, Nov. 4 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Today, the National Medical Association, a medical society representing the interests of more than 25,000 African American physicians, recommends the postponement of the Rotavirus vaccine.

The recommendation comes in the wake of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's alert to healthcare professionals to postpone the Rotavirus vaccine. The postponement was issued due to what appears to be a possible increased risk of intussuception, a bowel obstruction that occurs when the bowel folds in on itself in infants.
