Article: Research Center Says Federal Spending in Washington Area Increases 5.6 Percent in 1997

WASHINGTON, June 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Total federal spending in the metropolitan Washington area rose to $62.7 billion in 1997, for an increase of 5.6 percent over 1996, while total federal spending increased by only 2.3 percent nationwide, according to a new report by George Mason University's Stephen S. Fuller, Ph.D., for the Greater Washington Research Center.

According to the report, federal procurement spending in the region also rose 4.3 percent between 1996 and 1997 to $21.7 billion, while nationally, federal procurement spending decreased by 3.7 percent.
