On Tuesday, Dec. 16, the District of Columbia Tax Revision
Commission will hear three presentations. Professor John Bowman,
chair, economics department, Virginia Commonwealth University, will
present data and recommendations about personal property taxes,
including a recommendation to eliminate the tax on tangible, or
business, personal property. This tax currently is the only personal
property tax in the District.
If commission members want to retain the personal property tax,
Bowman recommends an alternative: reduce the rate on business
personal property and tax additional types of personal property to
