Article: Gephardt Statement on Commerce Secretary Evans' Census Decision

WASHINGTON, Feb. 16 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following statement was released today by House Democratic Leader Richard A. Gephardt:

I am deeply disappointed that Commerce Secretary Evans has acted to rescind the rule that gives the professionals at the Census Bureau the authority to determine whether the 2000 Census should be adjusted to improve its accuracy. This action is particularly disturbing because it was done without consultation with the Congressional committees that have jurisdiction over this matter.
