WASHINGTON, April 11 /U.S. Newswire/ -- American Rivers announced today that it has ranked the Mississippi River No. 6 on its annual list of rivers facing the most immediate and severe environmental threats. American Rivers and its partners called on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to abandon two proposed flood control projects that would damage more than 200,000 acres of rare floodplain wetlands, and urged the public to speak out against this wasteful use of their tax dollars to destroy valuable habitat.
