Article: HSUS Condemns National Park Service Aerial Poisoning Plan; NPS Plan Would Indiscriminately Poison Wildlife on Anacapa Island

WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Humane Society of the United States, the nation's largest animal protection organization, today condemned a decision by the National Park Service (NPS) to institute aerial poisoning of black rats on Anacapa Island, part of the Channel Islands National Park.

The Park Service announced that it plans to proceed with the poisoning beginning December 1, 2001, despite knowing that substantial non-target mortalities will occur and that such a plan is in violation of federal law.
