Article: Gore to Make Social Security More Fair for Women

PHILADELPHIA, April 4 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Exactly 65 years after Franklin Roosevelt signed the law that created Social Security, Al Gore announced today that he would make Social Security more fair for women.

Gore would improve Social Security benefits for widows and the 8 million people, most of them women, who take time off from work to raise children. Gore would also strengthen Social Security until at least 2050. The centerpiece of Bush's agenda is an enormous $2.1 trillion tax scheme that leaves no resources for shoring up Social Security for the future.
