WASHINGTON, June 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Concerned about possible
violations of federal law by the Baltimore Orioles, Rep. Bill
Goodling (R-PA) sent a letter today to Major League Baseball
Commissioner Allan "Bud" Selig asking the league to investigate
owner Peter Angelos' reported policy of not hiring Cuban defectors.
Goodling called the reported policy "un-American."
"Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 makes it illegal for
an employer to deny a job to someone based on national origin," said
Goodling, chairman of Education and the Workforce Committee, which
has jurisdiction over the nation's employment discrimination laws.
