WASHINGTON, July 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- They grew up during the
Great Depression, saved the world from tyranny, and earned a first-
class memorial in a high-profile location paying tribute to their
sacrifice. The American Legion urged the Commission of Fine Arts
today to approve construction of a memorial on The Mall here to
honor members of the World War II generation.
Approval by the Fine Arts Commission is one hurdle that
organizers must clear in order to break ground on Veterans Day, as
planned.
