Move over, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. Another record is within
reach.
And this one is thanks to the generosity of Daily Mail readers.
The Daily Mail's Neediest Cases Appeal today tops the $114,000
mark, the highest total ever reached by Christmas Day for the fund.
Last year the fund had raised $95,000 by Dec. 25.
The all-time Neediest Cases fund-raising record of $116,043, set
in 1996, is drawing close.
An early donation this year helped boost the Neediest Cases
Appeal.
The $10,000 donation was left in the will of Maria Gyuiahazi, a
Hungarian immigrant who escaped the communist regime in her home
country and rebuilt her life in America. Gyuiahazi died last year,
