Winfield High School's fall sports are having mixed results in
the school's first year of Class AAA competition.
The boys cross country team is among the more successful of the
Generals' programs.
"We're about where I expected we'd be," Winfield cross country
Coach Doug Kirk said. "They were dedicated over the summer. They
really wanted to work hard and do well."
Winfield, a perennial power in track, is ranked No. 5 in Class
AAA in the latest RunWV.com Power Rankings and turned in a solid
performance at Wednesday's Charleston Catholic Invitational at soggy
Camp Virgil Tate.
The Generals finished second to Class AA-A power Ravenswood in a
17-team boys field that included nine AAA schools.
