Article: Clothing vouchers for children to increase by $50 this year

Poor children will get an extra $50 for clothing this fall, Gov. Cecil Underwood announced today.

The state's clothing voucher for poor children will increase to $150 this August, Underwood said. The voucher had remained at $100 since the mid-1980s, according to state officials.

Poor, school-age children may use the vouchers to buy pants, shirts, dresses, coats and other clothing items from participating stores. The vouchers work like food stamps and are not redeemable for cash.
