Forget about many of the Alley Cats spending post-Charleston time
with, well, the alley cats.
Several players on the South Atlantic League squad have completed
their undergraduate degrees. This may not be exceptional in
comparison to other Class A teams. Yet it also means that if those
with sheepskins do not defy baseball's long odds and make it to the
Majors, there is a cushion the size of Mark McGwire's forearms to
fall back upon.
"It's something you have in your holding tank," Charleston
designated hitter Danny DiPace said Monday. "Right now, my focus
isn't on my degree. It's focused on learning the small things (about
baseball)."
