Heading into two weeks of meetings, a select Charleston City
Council committee is inclined to bypass Morgantown businessman John
Raese's bid to buy the Municipal Auditorium in favor of the Kanawha
County Commission's offer.
A majority of the committee members said in interviews this week
that they prefer the city's auditorium fall into public, rather than
private, hands. But they left the door open for their votes to be
swayed as they meet to discuss the issue in the coming weeks.
"I'm not in favor of selling it to John Raese or anybody else,"
committee member and Council President Howard Quick said. "I'm in
favor of letting the county have it."
