The Rev. James Michael Flippo, serving a life sentence for the brutal 1996 beating death of his wife at Babcock State Park, has published a book of poetry written from his cell inside Mount Olive Correctional Complex. Flippo, 53, began the 112-page book from the time he started serving his sentence after his 1997 conviction in Fayette Circuit Court.

The former pastor of the Landmark Church of God in Nitro writes that he was moved by God to begin writing poetry after observing the scenic beauty outside his cell window in the penitentiary's psychiatric ward.
