NO fireworks on the Fourth of July? No fireworks on the Fourth of July in the capital city of the state of West Virginia? Goodness gracious. There are all kinds of crises in this world, and sacrifices must be made, but up with this we cannot put.

A Fourth of July without fireworks would be like Thanksgiving without turkey.

Unthinkable.

But the responsibility for Fourth of July fireworks should never have rested exclusively with the taxpayers of Charleston, however. The city, generous to a fault, has entertained the valley at large for many years on this occasion, but it is time for other players to share that responsibility.
